Charles Johnson
Senior Pastor
Born and raised in Charlottesville, VA, Charles has had the joy of serving churches in his hometown as well as The Woodlands, TX, St. Louis, MO, Franklin, TN before coming to Birmingham in the Fall of 2020. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration at James Madison University in 2005, and a Masters of Divinity from Covenant Theological Seminary in 2013. Charles is married to Shonda, and together they have two boys: Trent and Gavin. In his free time, Charles enjoys reading, whitewater kayaking, hiking, and University of Virginia Sports.
Matt Clegg
Associate Pastor
Matt grew up mostly in Tifton, GA, but has made stops in Budapest, Hungary, Chattanooga, TN, Anderson, SC, and St. Louis, MO before moving to Birmingham, AL. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion from Covenant College in 2007, and a Masters of Divinity from Covenant Theological Seminary in 2016. He is married to Lauren, and has four children: Iker, Margot, Torin and Emeth. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking and playing games with his family, playing the guitar, bass fishing, and supporting his favorite English football club, Liverpool FC.
Jeff Koonce
Chief Musician and Director of Operations
Jeff is a native of Birmingham and received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in 2001. He has been contributing to creation of new music at RMC for over 20 years and loves finding new ways to breathe new life into old hymns. He is married to Madoline and has two girls, Mardie and Penny. You can usually find Jeff with his nose in a book while sitting on a stack of other books with a guitar and a spreadsheet not far away.
Michal Mabray
Director of Children’s Ministry and Women’s Ministry Coordinator
Michal grew up in Louisiana and Virginia before graduating from Wake Forest University with a B.A. in Studio Art. After moving to Birmingham, she worked several jobs with kids and in churches. She has a Masters of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School. In her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, being outside, and spending time with family and friends.
easton Barbour
Youth Director
Easton grew up in North Carolina, but spent his teenage and early adult years in Phoenix, Arizona. He worked in youth ministry at a church there for 9 years before moving to Birmingham in August 2025. He received a Bachelor of Christian Studies degree from Grand Canyon University in 2019 and a Masters of Divinity from Phoenix Seminary in 2026. Easton is married to Regena and together they have a son named Owen. In his spare time he loves to read, explore the outdoors, and enjoy a good cup of coffee.
Grace Davis
Administrative Assistant
Grace grew up in Memphis before attending Furman University where she received a B.S. in Biology and met her husband Charles. Together, they have 4 girls: Ellen, Annie, Clara, and Kate. When she’s not shuttling her girls around, Grace enjoys playing games, doing puzzles, and attempting to keep her plants alive.
Ashley Alliston
Financial Administrator
Ashley obtained her B.S. majoring in Accounting at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1993. She began her career at BBVA Compass Bank as an investment auditor where she obtained her CPA license. Beginning in 1996, Ashley spent 16 years supporting her family’s ministry and raising a daughter and son. She returned to the financial industry in 2013 as a bookkeeper to several companies and non-profits in the Birmingham area, including Red Mountain Church.
Ashley is a member of Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church. She and her husband, Stacy have been married since 2013 and have three children, Haley, Will. and Greyson. They enjoy cooking and working out together.
